Maureen Bottrell,Forensic Geologist.

Bottrell works in the trace evidence unit with the FBI. She is a geologist forensic examiner. Forensic Geology is the study of evidence relating to minerals, soil, petroleums, and other materials found in the Earth used to answer questions raised by the legal system.  She is testifying to her background. the FBI does a comparison studies. Bottrell is accepted by court as an expert in area of geology.Bottrell turns her entire body to face the jurors. While explaining testing/ collecting /analyzing she only looks only at jurors.Bottrell: Forensic geologist compares if sample (i.e. soil) from one place came from another place
The utilize a microscope to compare evidence. There are 3 forensic geologists on staff at the FBI. She received debris from the Pontiac Sunfire. She also received the shovel and 22 pairs of shoes from the Anthony home.  She was given evidence markers from the  site where Caylee was found. Ashton objects.  The court notes the soil for study was taken after the top lay at the remains site was taken away. The shoes had limited geologic material and were not suitable for study. The 3 pairs that had soil did not match the crime scene. Some shoes had appeared to be unworn.
She did testing on the debris on the trunk but they were not suitable for study. Bottrell: Mix of material from floor mat in CA trunk there was not enough debris to study .Bottrell: Study on shovel stopped because Caylee's bones were found.

Botrell testifies that you can have a mix of debris limiting  match of debris to sites. Not finding anything does not matter due to you can walk at a site and never get debris on shoes.   Ashton asks just because no presence of soil doesn't mean a person was never there? Bottrell says that's correct.

Excused.
