ORANGE COUNTY -- An Orange County family is mourning the loss of a toddler who drowned in a backyard pool during a Christmas celebration Tuesday afternoon.
The 15-month-old boy's grandfather found him in the pool at their home in the 9800 block of Heaton Court in eastern Orange County about 3:30 p.m., said Deputy Carlos Padilla, sheriff's spokesman.
A miscommunication between several adults at the home left Isaiah Whalen unattended, and he fell into the water, Padilla said.
Authorities think Isaiah may have been underwater for up to 20 minutes before he was found. The child was rushed to Florida Hospital East, where he later died.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla -- Christmas turned tragic for a family in Orange County Tuesday afternoon when a 15-month-old boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool.

A detective with the Orange County Sheriff's Office identified the child as Isaiah Whalen.
Family members told deputies that they were observing Christmas at a home on Heaton Court in east Orange County when they noticed that Isaiah was missing.

The boy's mother and other relatives immediately launched a search around the home and the neighborhood. While searching around the pool area, the boy's grandfather spotted him face down in a murky, above ground pool in the rear of the house.

The grandfather jumped in the pool and administered CPR, which was continued by an Orange County Sheriff's deputy who arrived on the scene.

Fire rescue units transported the boy to Florida Hospital East where he died a couple of hours later.

An investigation into the incident will be conducted by the sheriff's office as well at the Department of Children and Familie
