Dr. Gary Utz, Chief Deputy Medical Examiner

Dr. Gary Utz, Chief Deputy Medical Examiner is testifying to his background. He took over case on December 11, 2008. He dispatched Investigator Hanson.Utz was waiting for Hanson to bring what he collected to the morgue.U tz says the canvas and black plastic bags all came together w/ fabric (blanket) and debris. skull in separate  bag.
Utz describes examination of remains. The next pic is of the bag opened up. They are zooming in on a leg bone. Again you would miss it if you didn't know what to look for.

The skull from the front will be shown next.Next photo is skull/ tape/leaves at the morgue. They ripped the brown evidence bag open
Jury can now see the skull w hair, tape, and debris, leaves.
The pic is of an upright skull. You can see hair wrapped around it. The tape there looks like it's sitting in front of what would be mouth
Next pic is taken from the back left side. If you were driving a car - it's taken from someone standing outside rear passenger door.
This next pic is from a completely different angle. It would be as if you were laying on your right side-head resting on a pillow. Utz says there are multiple pieces of tape. He doesn't know exactly how many. He thinks 3 but definately  more  than one.  Utz says the pieces of duct tape were sticking together.
The duct tape was attached to the mandible.Pic. : duct tape, mandible, plant roots shown. Angle is from bottom of skull There were roots wrapped around and tape around the hair mat. A small portion of the tape and roots had to be cut to remove the tape. Utz on duct tape: "The tape itself was no longer adhesive...but ...still stuck to it...were small portions of the hair.  Utz: "Mandible still attached because of this hair mat with ingrown plant material."
The next pic is of the skull with the tape removed.  They had to remove the mandible.  It was unusual that the mandible was found with skull.   It is usually displaced from the skull when found.  Utz: Said there were some teeth in the mandible.
Next pic is of skull laying on left side.  The duct tape is attached to left mandible. Utz: Describes Caylee's mandible with hair on it.  Their is fabric from the duct tape "lightly adhering" to and plant roots attached to mandible. Utz is pointing out plant roots growing and being tangled in hair and tape and skull.Utz: Describes right side of lower Caylee mandible, lift tape to show fabric backing attached to bone.
Casey Anthony sits with her head down and not looking. She occassionly wipes eyes. Her hand is always covering her mouth. She seems to be getting more and more emotional as Utz details her dead daughter's bones, hair, duct tape on jaw, etc. CA appears to be on the verge of becoming sick. Her attorneys console her.
The next pic is of duct tape after removal.Utz: Describes details of silver colored duct tape found wrapped on Caylee's skull.   There is some hair. It was sent to FBI. Utz identifies evidence bag.

He is shown another evidence bag. It is a pic of the cloth laundry bag.
He is shown another pic of laundry bag from different angle.  He identifies both.
He is shown a third pic of laundry bag. It is dirty at bottom of bag  and one side up toward opening appears white.  Utz believes it had coating like waterproofing.
Next pic is canvas bag in an upright position. Imagine looking down at your laundry bag.
Pics of black garbage bag, shown and identified. It was tied.
More pics of bags.
Next pic is of Caylees shorts, They are brown and dirty. No longer pink. They are filthy. And ripped (a large hole in them) very ragged.
Recess.

All the attorneys (except Lisbeth Fryor) went into judge's chambers. CASEY IS BEING ESCORTED OUT OF COURTROOM.The judge is in courtroom and on his cell phone. Casey is back in courtroom. He is facing the windows so his back is towards us and attorneys. Sidebar.
Recess for day. He asks for everyone to respect the defense privacy. Casey is ill. She is deep heaving. She appeared  double over all day. It apears she is weakening .Perry: "Miss Anthony is ill. Neither the state nor the defense have any comments."
