The defense has requested to bar cameras from the courtroom.
Judge Perry stated “We don’t live in Libya.” and said that he didn’t know of any Florida cases where cameras were banned. Baez said that this could be the first.
The judge is warning audience members of the graphic pictures. He asks them to leave if they can't control their emotions ( facial expressions, weak stomachs). George and Cindy are not in the courtroom.
Judge tells camera to blur or pixilate any pic of skull. CA appears to be bracing herself for a rough time. Dorothy Sims is on her left and has from time to time tried to console her. These jurors have no idea what's about to happen.
Jennifer Welch is on the stand. She is in the forensics u.
nit w/ Orange Co Sheriff's . office. Crime Scene Investigator. Welch is recalling the crime scene. It was raining. These pics are from Dec 11, 2008.
First picture -we've seen before. It shows the thick vegetation.
Deputies are on high alert. If anyone shows a facial expression, gasp, anything they will be asked to leave.
Next pic is of wooded area it shows the beginning of the path into the woods.\
Next picture is a different section of wooded area.
Next pic Welch points out an old flyer/ sign for day care.
Still looking at path to wooded area. so far the defense hasn't objected to any of these photos.n the picture everything looks wet. Very wet. (from the rain) Casey has her head down and is crying. Casey starting to cry as the picture of the skull is published. The picture is a close up of a small skull. It's the top of it. Looks like there is some hair. The state is moving through these pictures quickly. If you didn't know what to look for in this picture you would miss the skull. It's tiny. t's my understanding CA has NEVER seen this pictures before. CA continues to look down. Dorothy Sims is sitting very close to her.
Next picture is a medium shot of ground w/ skull in the center. Jurors are closely looking at picture.
Crime scene investigator points out black trash bag and another bag in photo of the skull.Next pic shows canvas bag... Black trash bag... It is reported that you can't really see the skull. One pic of the skull came up in opening statements. All these other ones - CA has not seen. CA is still looking down and wiping away tears. Her nose is red now. The Mac book normally in front of CA has been moved away from her.
Next picture is close up of skull. You can also see bag and pair of shorts. CA appears to be breaking down and not looking at the photos. The shorts are so little and dirty I don't think you would know what it is. Welch is pointing them out to the jury in photo. Extreme close up of skull is next. Extreme close up of skull is next.
Next picture shows black plastic bag and pair of shorts.
These photos were never released to the media before. This is the first time we've seen them too.Next pic shows a beer bottle somewhat close to the black plastic bag.
The next picture is close up of skull. And Welch says can see "clothing remnants.
Next pic is close up of the tag. Linda Drane Burdick points out front of skull and asks what it is. Welch says it's duct tape. Next photo: wide shot- black bag, canvas bag and skull. Again I don't think you would know it was a skull. CSI points it out.
Next pic shows black bag, canvas bag and in the corner Welch says is duct tape. She said it was on the skull. It is reported Just to give you an idea. The skull is tiny. No bigger than the length of a woman's hand.
Next picture is very close up of clothing remnants and duct tape.
The defense steps up for cross examination. CA still wiping her eyes, while Baez cross-examines. Still very visibly upset or is she?
Baez pulls up photo of skull and bag. CA still looking down and not at these stunning picture. I think the pic w/ the most reaction from jury would have been the last one where the skull is being picked up by csi w/ blue gloves. Baez is now asking about the duct tale. Pulls up extreme close up of it.
Next picture is of skull and duct tape. Very close. You can see hair and the skull.
Baez calls for the pic I just told you about (blue gloves - skull pick up) jurors take notes.
Welch says she'd have to use force to pick up skull (w/some vegetation) Baez asks about protective footwear.Welch says she isn't. Investigator Welch is excused
